Voigtlander 50mm APO-LANTHAR Aspherical 🇯🇵 Tack-sharp Glass for Tokyo and wherever you are!
Most reviews I've seen of this lens give many details of how this lens is practically unbeatable. What do I think? Well, for urban and street photography here in Tokyo, it's out-of-control awesome. Word around the campfire is that this lens is the best Voigtlander has made.
See the Tokyo streets through my Leica M10 paired with the Voigtlander 50mm APO-LANTHAR Aspherical lens.

    I found this on a regular trip to the closest camera shop which is like a 2 hour drive, I always try and seek out those stocks that are rarely "mainstream," though HP5 pushed 2 stops is a great default, it is good to explore. If you are into color you might try the Lomography 800, yet to try it, but that is the next film on my list, getting away from Portra 400 for a minute. Awesome shots.

      I hear good things about the Lomo 800 stock! I'm i recently purchased a C41 kit, so I'm going to be shooting more color in the near future and the Lomo color films are at the top of the list. Did you like the Earl Grey? Good qualities for your style/

    I rarely shoot digital anyway, but recently decided to upgrade from an old Canon DSLR to one of the latest Sony mirrorless. First step was getting a nice 50mm lens which could resolve 61MP of detail. This one came up a lot and its only "downside" was manual focus, but I shoot 99% of the time on a Spotmatic with all manual lenses, so that wasn't at all an argument against, in my opinon. I have been absolutely blown away by this lens. At a fraction of the cost of other 50mm lenses for Sony, I was not expecting to be so impressed by it!

  • @TCMx3
    @TCMx3 25 дней назад

    definitely one of the highest price to performance lenses on the market. it does have real downsides though. vignetting is extreme (which is w.ever but it is true) and it's bigger than even the close focus summilux 🙃The Leica 50 APO is maybe getting up there in the years especially considering the price, but it's tiny in comparison. I think the rendering of this lens is underrated; unlike a lot of highly corrected lenses (especially from the big 3) it doesn't seem to suffer from the same harshness, and it has a pleasing neutrality to its falloff.

    • @TokyoGritandGrain
      @TokyoGritandGrain 25 дней назад

      Thanks for chiming in. I definitely need to put this lens through more rigorous use (mostly so I can find the vignetting). It's a great lens for street, which I spend most of my time doing, and it's performing well in comparison to my 1950-something Canon LTM glass. I should probably not take it off for a month or so and see how it goes. Cheers!

      Thanks for chiming in. I loved this camera quite a bit, so much that I bought a backup. The autofocus, metering, and a few other features that make this camera a champion, are tops. BUT, I sold them and the lenses last month. This rig, paired with most of the lenses I liked, were just too heavy. I do a ton of photowalks, so it became a burden. The sale of those items led me to the CONTAX 167MT. It's not as epic as the EOS-1N, but it's light, feels good, sounds good, and the glass that pairs with it are very nice. It boiled down to slimming down in more ways than one. Should you buy the 1N? I think you should, so you can experience it and find out if you like the form factor and weight. Find a beat up one that you don't have to pay too much for. Let me know how things go. I'm interested to know your thoughts. Also, thanks for noticing the composition on the photos. Cheers!

    Neat idea! I have seen this concept before with paintings, particularly with religious art, but never thought to apply it to photography. Great photos!

      Thanks a ton! I appreciate it. It's quite difficult (for me) coming up with a theme for this show, so having a bit of coherency has helped. Also, I don't think there always needs to be a theme for shows. Heck, just photographing Tokyo is a theme in itself. Thanks for chiming in.

    I also live and work in the Tokyo area. I'm sure you probably develop and scan at home but I was wondering if you had a lab in the area that you could recommend. I simply don't have the space for developing myself. Thanks!

      I can recommend National Photo in Harajuku. Good quality dev & scans. You may need to ask for specific size scans (I haven't received scans from them). maps.app.goo.gl/JMfhDoP1iDtzBeYQA LMK how this goes for you. Thanks for chiming in!

    Bought one of these on eBay not working/for repair for $10. Turns out that the assembly folks had left a protective tissue on one of the PCB contact strips. Took about 15min to fix. Brand new never been used for obvious reasons.
